Two past champions and the hottest player in the world to end last season are among the notables who won't play the weekend at the Masters.

Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, and Viktor Hovland are among the 29 players to miss the cut of 6-over at Augusta National - a number that reflects just how difficult conditions were on Friday.

Spieth's tournament took a disastrous turn on his fourth hole of the restart Friday morning, as he found water twice to card his second career quadruple-bogey 9 on the par-5 15th. He finished with a 7-over 79 and added a 2-over 74 in Round 2 to miss the cut by a wide margin. It's just his second career missed cut at Augusta.

Johnson's Masters was a mess from start to finish, as the 2020 champion matched his worst career score at Augusta National with a 78 in Round 1. That mark held up for about seven more hours, as Johnson made eight bogeys en route to a shocking 79 in Round 2. When the dust cleared, Johnson had only beaten two men in the entire 89-player field.

Hovland appeared to be in great shape for the weekend after an opening-round 71, but the Norwegian blew up early on Friday to fall off the rails. A bogey on the first hole led to an unbelievable triple-bogey 8 on the par-5 second to immediately put him back to 3-over. A whopping 7-over 43 on the first nine was too much to overcome as he ended up shooting 81 to miss the cut by two shots.

Other noteworthy names to miss the weekend include Justin Thomas, Brian Harman, Wyndham Clark and Sam Burns.
