Woods shoots 82 for worst career round at Augusta

Tiger Woods' 99th career round at the Masters is one he'd like to forget, as the five-time winner shot the highest score of his career at Augusta National with a 10-over 82.

Woods struggled mightily from the opening tee despite starting the day in 22nd-place after setting the new Masters record with his 24th straight made cut.

The five-time winner battled putting issues through the first nine to post a 6-over 42 - his worst score on the opening stretch at Augusta in his Masters career.

After parring the opening three holes, Woods bogeyed the par-3 4th for the third straight day. He appeared to have righted the ship with his first birdie on the 5th hole since 2013, but he immediately missed a short putt for par and bogeyed the 6th.

The wheels really came off on the 7th when the five-time champ was forced to pitch out from behind a tree before dumping his pitch into the greenside bunker. The result was a double-bogey 6 to drop him to 3-over on the day.

Next came the stunner: Woods posted a double-bogey 7 on the par-5 8th for the first time in his Masters career. There would be no reprieve on the 9th, as another errant drive led to another bogey to make the turn at 6-over on the round and 7-over for the tournament.

Things didn't improve much for the 48-year-old on the closing stretch, with five bogeys against one birdie to shoot 40 on the second nine. The final result was four shots worse than his previous high score at Augusta when he shot two rounds of 78 on the weekend in 2022.

While many might withdraw from the event given the physical challenges Woods faces, he will confirmed that he will be back on Sunday when he becomes the 21st man ever to play 100 rounds in the Masters.

"My team will get me ready," Woods told Dylan Dethier of Golf.com after the round. "It will be a long night and a long warmup session, but we'll be ready."

Woods' tee time for the final round won't be determined until later in the day Saturday.
