Dambaugh, Thanapolboonyaras lead LPGA Tour Q-school

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) University of South Carolina senior Katelyn Dambaugh and Thailand's Pannarat Thanapolboonyaras each shot 5-under 67 on Wednesday to share the first-round lead in the LPGA Qualifying Tournament.

The top 20 in the 90-hole event will earn full cards and the next 25 and ties will get conditional status.

''I was just focusing on having fun out there,'' Dambaugh said. ''My coach from home was on the bag and we were just out there goofing off and having fun like we always do. I'm just trying to take it one shot at a time and not put pressure on myself and letting the results take care of themselves.''

She holed out for eagle on the par-4 seventh and had five birdies and two bogeys on LPGA International's Jones Course.

''I came here with not many expectations,'' Dambaugh said. ''I just came to try and play my best and do what I've been doing. I knew if I did that I'd have a decent round today and getting off to a good start makes it a little easier.''

Thanapolboonyaras tied for 15th last year to earn a tour card, but lost it with a 123rd-place finish on the money list, also in the Jones Course.

Jaye Marie Green, Min-G Kim and 17-year-old Nasa Hataoka shot 68 on the Jones layout. Mel Reid, JeongEun Lee and Celine Boutier topped the players on the Hills Course, shooting 69.

''I was really nervous before the tournament,'' Hataoka said through a translator. ''I'm really happy to shoot under-par today.''

Green won the 2013 tournament at a record 29 under.

''It is definitely windier this year,'' Green said.
