Trumbo becomes 1st to reach 40 homers

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

Mark Trumbo sure picked a great year to become a home-run hitting machine.

The Baltimore Orioles slugger became the first player in baseball to hit 40 home runs this season when he took New York Yankees reliever Ben Heller well over Yankee Stadium's bullpens to clinch a 5-0 Orioles win.

Trumbo, who will be a free agent at season's end, has already pushed well past his previous career high of 34 homers from the 2011 season.
