Here is an updated look at the top 200 fantasy baseball rankings (position eligibility provided by Yahoo!): ▲ ▼

Tier 1

Rank PLAYER TEAM POSITION TREND
Mike Trout LAA OF1
Paul Goldschmidt ARI 1B1
Jose Altuve HOU 2B1
Nolan Arenado COL 3B1
Kris Bryant CHC 1B2/3B2/OF2
Mookie Betts BOS OF3
Anthony Rizzo CHC 1B3
Clayton Kershaw LAD SP1
Josh Donaldson TOR 3B3
Manny Machado BAL SS1/3B4
Max Scherzer WAS SP2
Corey Seager LAD SS2
Starling Marte PIT OF4
Carlos Correa HOU SS3
Bryce Harper WAS OF5
Trea Turner WAS 2B2/OF6
Charlie Blackmon COL OF7
Miguel Cabrera DET 1B4
Madison Bumgarner SF SP3
Noah Syndergaard NYM SP4

Betts is going to go in your draft earlier than sixth, and it's justifiable. Maybe the power sticks around, and maybe he steals 30 bases in 2017 while still simultaneously driving in and scoring 100-plus runs. Goldschmidt and Arenado have longer track records in terms of power, while Altuve has honed his game for several more years. Drafting Betts for his power could be a mistake (he's still very good).

Tier 2

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Chris Sale BOS SP5
Corey Kluber CLE SP6
Freddie Freeman ATL 1B5
Robinson Cano SEA 2B3
George Springer HOU OF8
Joey Votto CIN 1B6
Edwin Encarnacion CLE 1B7
Giancarlo Stanton MIA OF9
Xander Bogaerts BOS SS4
Jake Arrieta CHC SP7

Brian Dozier MIN 2B4
Carlos Gonzalez COL OF10
Christian Yelich MIA OF11
Jacob deGrom NYM SP8
Ryan Braun MIL OF12
Daniel Murphy WAS 1B8/2B5
A.J. Pollock ARI OF13
Jonathan Villar MIL 2B6/SS5/3B6
Francisco Lindor CLE SS6

Pollock can't be considered a post-injury sleeper. His current ADP is 34th overall according to FantasyPros, meaning you'll have to reach for him in the third round for a realistic shot at landing him. He's worth it if he stays healthy. He has power, speed, and a great eye as shown in his breakout 2015.

Tier 3

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Stephen Strasburg WAS SP9
Jon Lester CHC SP10
Wil Myers SD 1B9/OF14
Yoenis Cespedes NYM OF15
Nelson Cruz SEA OF16
Adrian Beltre TEX 3B7
J.D. Martinez DET OF17
David Price BOS SP11
Johnny Cueto SF SP12
Jose Abreu CWS 1B10
Dee Gordon MIA 2B7
Andrew McCutchen PIT OF18
Chris Davis BAL 1B11
Chris Archer TB SP13
Gregory Polanco PIT OF19
Justin Verlander DET SP14
Yu Darvish TEX SP15
Hanley Ramirez BOS 1B12
Trevor Story COL SS7
Matt Carpenter STL 1B13/2B8/3B8

Carpenter may not hit .300 again, but he's hit either .272 or .271 over each of the last three seasons. That's consistency. He can hit some home runs, and he's poised to hit third in the lineup, setting him up for a strong RBI campaign. His position eligibility should add to his appeal. There is something to be said for stability, even if it isn't flashy. That's Carpenter to a 'T.'

Tier 4

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Jason Kipnis CLE 2B9
Justin Upton DET OF20
Billy Hamilton CIN OF21
Jose Bautista TOR OF22
Carlos Carrasco CLE SP16
Rougned Odor TEX 2B10
Buster Posey SF C1/1B14
Evan Longoria TB 3B9
Todd Frazier CWS 1B15/3B10
DJ LeMahieu COL 2B11
Eric Hosmer KC 1B16
Troy Tulowitzki TOR SS8
Zack Greinke ARI SP17
Masahiro Tanaka NYY SP18
Carlos Martinez STL SP19
Ian Desmond COL OF23
Ian Kinsler DET 2B12
Adam Jones BAL OF24
Albert Pujols LAA 1B17
Kenta Maeda LAD SP20

Tulowitzki is ranked far higher here than in comparable rankings. While a drop in expectations is reasonable based on his diminished returns since arriving in Toronto, concern is potentially overblown. After returning from injury in June, Tulowitzki hit .280/.333/.474 through the end of 2016, striking out only 14.7% of the time.

Tier 5

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Aroldis Chapman NYY RP1
Kenley Jansen LAD RP2

Roberto Osuna TOR RP7
Jose Quintana CWS SP22
Gary Sanchez NYY C3
Matt Kemp ATL OF28
Danny Salazar CLE SP23
Kyle Hendricks CHC SP24
Kyle Schwarber CHC C4/OF29
Khris Davis OAK OF30
Julio Teheran ATL SP25

The appealing element of Hendricks' fantasy outlook is the team he plays for. The Cubs will win a ton of games, but the odds of Hendricks posting a 2.13 ERA are not as high. His 3.20 FIP and 3.59 xFIP suggest he wasn't as sparkling. Hendricks has ramped up his innings, but has yet to eclipse 200 in a season. If he and Teheran switched teams, Teheran would easily be ahead.

Tier 6

Rank Name Team Position TREND
Carlos Santana CLE 1B19
Alex Bregman HOU 3B12/SS9
Jean Segura SEA 2B13/SS10
Aaron Sanchez TOR SP26
Jackie Bradley Jr. BOS OF31
Stephen Piscotty STL OF32
Dustin Pedroia BOS 2B14
Marcell Ozuna MIA OF33
Rick Porcello BOS SP27
Felix Hernandez SEA SP28
Danny Duffy KC SP29
Edwin Diaz SEA RP8
Adrian Gonzalez LAD 1B20
Michael Brantley CLE OF34
Ken Giles HOU RP9
Anthony Rendon WAS 3B13
Lorenzo Cain KC OF35
Seung Hwan Oh STL RP10
Gerrit Cole PIT SP30
Kevin Gausman BAL SP31

Is Santana underrated? FantasyPros ADP has him pegged as the 115th player taken overall and the 18th first baseman. Most people aren't willing to wait on a first baseman, but Santana hit 34 home runs and walked as often as he struck out. A .258 BABIP kept his batting average low, but he's an excellent supplement in case you miss out early at the position, or are looking for depth.

Tier 7

RANK NAME TEAM POSITION TREND
Michael Fulmer DET SP32
Marcus Stroman TOR SP33
Andrew Miller CLE RP11
Matt Harvey NYM SP34

Addison Russell CHC SS11
Aledmys Diaz STL 2B15/SS12
Dellin Betances NYY RP12
Anthony DeSclafani CIN SP35
David Robertson CWS RP13
Jon Gray COL SP36
David Dahl COL OF37
Rich Hill LAD SP37
Brad Miller TB 1B22/SS13
Miguel Sano MIN 3B14/OF38
Hunter Pence SF OF39
Justin Turner LAD 1B23/3B15
Elvis Andrus TEX SS14
Maikel Franco PHI 3B16

Russell is only 23 years old, and he has two major league seasons under his belt. In 2016, he shaved his K-rate from 28.5 to 22.6 while hitting 21 home runs and 95 RBIs. He also walked more often. In a lineup as potent as the Cubs, Russell is poised to provide excellent returns and won't cost a premium pick.

Tier 8

Ranking Name Team Position Trend
Aaron Nola PHI SP38 ▲
Jake Lamb ARI 3B17

Joc Pederson LAD OF43
J.T. Realmuto MIA C6
Salvador Perez KC C7

Dexter Fowler STL OF44
Ryon Healy OAK 3B19 ▲
Yasmani Grandal LAD C8
Jeurys Familia NYM RP14

Nola is almost the opposite of the aforementioned Kyle Hendricks. The Phillies are not expected to provide much in the way of wins, but Nola is poised for a bit of a breakout. He struck out nearly 10 batters per nine innings in 2016, and his 4.78 ERA may have been inflated as his 3.08 xFIP and .334 BABIP suggests some unfortunate luck.

Tier 9

Rank Name Team Position Trend
Steven Matz NYM SP42
Dallas Keuchel HOU SP43
Jameson Taillon PIT SP44 ▲
Adam Duvall CIN OF45

Ender Inciarte ATL OF49
Melky Cabrera CWS OF50
Carlos Gomez TEX OF51
Julio Urias LAD SP49

Taillon may be on an innings limit in his second full season, but he's intriguing because of his ability to throw strikes. He only walked 1.47 batters per nine innings in 104 IP last season. Few young pitchers demonstrate that kind of command upon their MLB debuts. Taillon also limited home runs throughout the minors, so a reduction in that category could be on the way.

Tier 10

Rank Name Team Position Trend
Jose Peraza CIN 2B20/SS18/OF52
Brian McCann HOU C9
Starlin Castro NYY 2B21

Michael Pineda NYY SP51
Russell Martin TOR C10
Greg Bird NYY 1B26
Carlos Rodon CWS SP52
Sean Manaea OAK SP53
Nomar Mazara TEX OF54 ▼
Robbie Ray ARI SP54
Sonny Gray OAK SP55
Randal Grichuk STL OF55
Cody Allen CLE RP17
Adam Wainwright STL SP56
Hisashi Iwakuma SEA SP57
Mike Moustakas KC 3B21
Blake Snell TB SP58

Peraza's speed and clear path to playing time - now that Brandon Phillips is gone - bump him into the top 200. He hit .324/.352/.411 in 72 games with the Reds a season ago, relying on contact and footspeed to elevate his BABIP. Expected to lead off, Peraza should easily lead the Reds in runs scored so long as he continues to scrape together hits.
