Rangers' Banister says he was ejected for clapping

Tim Heitman / USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister apparently found a new way to get ejected Monday night.

With the Rangers trailing the Minnesota Twins 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, Banister took exception to a called strike three on Elvis Andrus that appeared to be outside.

He was spotted mouthing back and forth with home plate umpire Alfonso Marquez, and was eventually tossed, supposedly for clapping too loudly.

"It's the first time I've ever been ejected for clapping," Banister said, according to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

After Banister was ejected, Joey Gallo walked on six pitches before Jonathan Lucroy grounded out to end the game.
