Mets trade Yohan Ramírez to Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles acquired right-handed reliever Yohan Ramírez from the New York Mets for cash considerations, both teams announced Thursday.
New York had designated Ramírez for assignment on Monday after adding Cole Sulser to its 40-man roster.
Ramírez made headlines early in the season when he was ejected and suspended for throwing a pitch near the head of Milwaukee Brewers slugger Rhys Hoskins on March 30. The incident came one day after Hoskins' hard slide into Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil triggered a brief benches-clearing incident between the clubs.
Ramírez claimed postgame that he wasn't throwing at Hoskins intentionally, but MLB still handed him a three-game ban for the incident. After he dropped his appeal, the league reduced his punishment to two games.
The 28-year-old adds depth to the Orioles' bullpen, where he could serve as a potential long man and occasional middle reliever.
Ramírez owns a lifetime 4.31 ERA and 1.39 WHIP with 134 strikeouts and six saves across 105 big-league appearances, all in relief. He was off to a rough start in 2024, allowing seven earned runs in 5.1 innings with the Mets.
Baltimore will be the Dominican Republic native's sixth stop in his big-league career.
