The Boston Red Sox have signed closer Koji Uehara to a two-year contract, the team announced Thursday.
The team didn't release financial terms of the deal, but it's for a reported $18 million over two years.
The 39-year-old converted 26 of his 31 save opportunities last season, but struggled late in the campaign, losing his grasp on the closer's role.
Uehara, however, will always have a special place in the hearts of Red Sox fans for his domination during the team's 2013 title run. The righty tossed 13 2/3 innings of one-run ball while striking out 16 to help assure Boston of a championship.
Uehara became a free agent as of 9 a.m. ET on Thursday.
