Ryan Goins had a night.

The Toronto Blue Jays second baseman was responsible for ending an extra-innings affair at the Rogers Centre against the Cleveland Indians with a two-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to give his team a 5-3 victory.

The walk-off hit was the first of Goins' career.

"I knew this one," Goins told reporters after being asked if he thought he hit a home run. "Hanging breaking ball. I was just looking for something out over the plate and I put a good swing on it."

Toronto's normally explosive offense was stymied by the Indians' pitching for most of the contest, being held to six hits - four of which came before the 10th.

Cleveland catcher and former Blue Jay Yan Gomes was a thorn in the side of Toronto all night, belting two game-tying home runs, which made him the first player to hit two game-tying homers in the seventh inning or later since Ty Wigginton in 2007.

Not only did Goins cement the 75th victory of the season for the Blue Jays, he also ended the six-game winning streak of the Indians, and showed his defensive prowess in the second inning, chasing down a foul ball off the bat of Lonnie Chisenhall.

Since becoming a full-time player on July 26, Goins is hitting .289 with a .407 on-base percentage. He has also made just three errors on the year - with only one coming at second base - and hasn't made any since May 12.

"He's smoking hot with the bat right now, he's really turning into a different hitter," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "He has such a good approach at the plate right now. That was a big win for us and you don't expect home run balls out of him but he's hit a few this year, he's hit a couple of really big ones."

The Blue Jays didn't gain any ground on the New York Yankees in the American League East, with New York defeating the Boston Red Sox 3-1.
