Eduardo Li and Brayan Jimenez have been recommended for lifelong bans from football by an investigatory chamber working on behalf of FIFA.

Li, ex-president of the Costa Rican Football Federation (FEDEFUTBOL) and Jimenez, the former president of the National Football Federation of Guatemala (FENAFUTG) have been accused of violating various rules of the sport's governing body. Those include the breaching of regulations relating to corruption and bribery, according to Reuters.

Li was arrested in the infamous police raid of the Baur au Lac hotel in Zurich in May 2015, shortly before he was set to be drafted into FIFA's executive committee, BBC Sport understands.

Costa Rica and Guatemala both compete in the CONCACAF confederation on the international scene, with the former currently topping "the Hex" of World Cup 2018 qualification over the likes of Mexico and the bottom-placed United States. The latter bowed out in Group C of the previous round after finishing below the U.S. and Trinidad and Tobago in its quartet.

The football associations of both countries have tried to move on from their respective scandals, with Jorge Hidalgo currently serving as interim FEDEFUTBOL president and Adela de Torrebiarte, a former interior minister and commissioner for the Guatemalan police, steadying the ship in FENAFUTG matters.
