With a little more than two weeks to go before the New York Red Bulls kick off the 2017 campaign at MLS debutant Atlanta United, the perennial Eastern Conference behemoth has bolstered the squad with the addition of Panamanian international Michael Amir Murillo.

Murillo, 21, joins Red Bulls on a one-year loan from Panamanian league side San Francisco, according to a statement on the club's website. The right-back's move will be finalized upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate.

With Sal Zizzo (19 starts) and Chris Duvall (15) sharing the right-back duties last campaign, Murillo's acquisition will help fill the void left by the latter, who was selected second overall by Minnesota United in the 2016 MLS Expansion Draft before being sent to the Montreal Impact for Johan Venegas.

The nine-times-capped Los Canaleros defender arrives at Red Bulls boasting three CONCACAF Champions League appearances in 2015-16, a tournament Jesse Marsch's lot will compete in starting Feb. 22 with a visit from fellow MLS outfit Vancouver.

"Michael is a player that we identified with our scouting network and have watched closely," Red Bulls boss Marsch admitted. "He fits the way we want to play and will be a good addition to our group."
