Watch: David Villa ejected using video replay for slapping DeLaGarza

Many marks distinguish David Villa in Major League Soccer, such as captain of New York City FC or the league's 2016 MVP, but the Spanish striker can now add a decoration of disorder to his lapel, having been ejected by way of FIFA's Video Assistant Referee (VAR) initiative.

Villa was sent off before the stroke of halftime in his NYCFC side's preseason match against the Houston Dynamo for slapping A.J. DeLaGarza in the face during a corner-kick routine.

The referee had originally shown Villa a yellow card, but the VAR on the sideline then instructed for a dismissal, and the former Valencia and Barcelona man was given his marching orders posthaste.

MLS is looking to implement the VAR program in its regular season after the All-Star Game in August.
