Theodorou grinds out unanimous decision over Ferreira

Slowly, but surely, "The Spartan" continues to make his way through the middleweight ranks.

Elias Theodorou put forth another workman-like performance to take a unanimous decision win over Cezar Ferreira in their middleweight bout on Sunday at UFC Fight Night 105 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

It was the fifth victory in six UFC appearances for Theodorou, a former winner of "The Ultimate Fighter." His overall record improves to 13-1.

The outcome was in doubt to the very end as Theodorou was put in some precarious positions by Ferreira, an expert grappler. On more than one occasion, "Mutante" came close to earning a submission with guillotine and rear-naked choke attacks.

Theodorou was able to escape Ferreira's holds, while scoring points with kicks and then big slams later in the fight. In the end, the judges favored Theodorou's varied activity over Ferreira's submission attempts.

The loss cost Ferreira a three-fight winning streak, his first setback since moving back up to the middleweight division last year after a lone appearance at 170 pounds.
