McMann wants 2nd title shot, open to taking another fight instead

Coming off of her third straight win, Sara McMann is eager to keep that streak going.

But will be against a champion or another contender?

McMann easily submitted Gina Mazany at UFC Fight Night 105 on Sunday, which gave her plenty of time to formulate her thoughts for her post-fight interview. The No. 7-ranked women's bantamweight was asked what was next and she named the winner of the upcoming title bout between champion Amanda Nunes and Valentina Shevchenko.

Should the timing not work out for that matchup, McMann sees herself competing again rather than waiting for a title opportunity.

"I am asking them to fight more frequently, and I don't care if I have to fight somebody else before," McMann said backstage, according to Fernanda Prates of MMAjunkie. "But I don't have to fight somebody else before in order to prove it. I'm on a three-fight win streak. I've done it against black belts, other title contenders - you know, people who are in the top ranks. Good fighters, in different skill sets.

"I don't feel like I have to prove that I've earned that because I don't see anybody else who's doing that, currently. Everybody else has either had losses, or hasn't strung it together, or aren't fighting the top-tier girls."

The win over Mazany followed up a pair of strong performances by McMann against one-time title contender Alexa Davis, and Jessica Eye. McMann fought Ronda Rousey for the women's bantamweight belt three years ago, a bout that ended with McMann losing by 1st-round TKO.

McMann is looking for another crack at the top of the mountain and if it's Nunes who is standing there, it will make the chase even sweeter as Nunes is the last woman to defeat her.

"Since they're both really good strikers, I think that either one of them would be a good matchup," McMann said. "And obviously I want to beat somebody who's beat me before. So, like, that has a little bit of a pull. But, honestly, I want the better fighter."
