While Russell Westbrook and his Oklahoma City Thunder teammate, Nick Collison, certainly met with unrestricted free agent Kevin Durant prior to his meetings in the Hamptons, reports concerning specifics over what the four-time scoring champion relayed to Westbrook over dinner appear to have been misunderstood.

During a recent appearance on the TrueHoop podcast, ESPN's Royce Young noted that Durant informed Westbrook that he was indeed returning to the Thunder for at least the 2016-17 season.

"Three weeks ago, Kevin Durant's sitting there at dinner, telling him 'Hey, I'm coming back, man. Don't worry about it,'" Young said. "Russell Westbrook's kinda been thrown into this in having to decide his future a summer earlier than expected."

Young clarified his remarks on Wednesday evening:

These were not direct quotes meant to be attributed to Durant. It was an attempt to characterize what Westbrook thought his situation was going to be in Oklahoma City and how Durant's leaving impacts his thinking about his future.

Regardless of what was or wasn't said between the now ex-teammates, one thing that's for sure is Durant will be suiting up for the 73-win Golden State Warriors next season on a two-year, $54.3-million contract.
