It appears Larry Bird will no longer be calling the shots.

Bird will step down from his position as president of the Indiana Pacers and become a consultant for the team, league sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical.

This would be the second time Bird has relinquished control of the Pacers. He made a similar decision to resign in 2012, after being named Executive of the Year. After citing ongoing health issues, he was replaced by Donnie Walsh, but returned to his position after only one year.

With Bird leaving the nest a second time, veteran basketball executive Kevin Pritchard, the architect of playoff teams with the Portland Trail Blazers in the late-2000s, will assume control over basketball operations in Indiana. Pritchard has served as general manager of the Pacers since being promoted in 2012.

While Bird's plan is to remain as a consultant with the Pacers, the Orlando Magic may have interest in him for their front office, reports Wojnarowski.
