Report: Mavericks have serious interest in Celtics' Rondo

Troy Taormina / USA Today Sports

The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly working hard to acquire Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo.

The deal would likely involve power forward Brandan Wright and at least one first-round pick, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Rondo, who is only 28, suffered an ACL tear in 2012-13 that kept him out of NBA action for almost one calendar year. Still, Rondo has four triple-doubles this season already and missed a fifth by three rebounds Wednesday night against the Orlando Magic.

It has been widely speculated the Celtics would eventually move him given the rest of the team's 2008 championship core has all moved on and Boston is now in rebuild mode. The Houston Rockets have also had discussions with the Celtics for Rondo, according to Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports.

The Mavericks currently have three point guards on their roster getting minutes - Jameer Nelson, Devin Harris and J.J. Barea - not to mention Raymond Felton, who has yet to play this season.
