South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson will enter the transfer portal, he told On3's Joe Tipton.

"First, I would like to thank God for all of the opportunities he's allowed me to have, and also my family and friends who have been there for me throughout this long journey," said Johnson.

"Second, I want to thank the entire coaching staff, strength coaches, trainers, alumni, and professors for contributing to me having a wonderful experience while attending USC. Gamecock Nation will always have a place in my heart."

Johnson led the Gamecocks in scoring with 14.1 points while adding 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He scored 24 points in South Carolina's first-round loss to Oregon in March Madness.

Johnson began his collegiate career at Ohio State, where he averaged less than five points per game. He transferred to the Gamecocks in coach Lamont Paris' first season and went on to average 12.7 points per contest.

"Coach Paris has been very impactful in my life and my development and that is my guy forever, but all being said, I will be entering the transfer portal and will also consider testing the NBA draft waters," Johnson said.
