Michigan head coach Brady Hoke's future in Ann Arbor is certainly in limbo.

On Saturday, interim athletic director Jim Hackett said that the decision on Hoke's future belongs to him.

Hackett met with the media for the first time Saturday afternoon since taking over as the team's interim athletic director when Dave Brandon resigned from the position.

Hackett did not offer any details as to how he will make his decision, but he did note that Michigan does not intend to hire a new, permanent athletic director until he decides if any changes are needed to the football program.

"We have a football coach who has had a long history of being a good coach," Hackett said, according to ESPN. "He knows we're not where we need to be right now."

Hackett has met with Hoke several times over the last month, and said he has liked what the coaching staff has been able to do in what's been a tough year for the program.

"I watch how people behave in adversity. These guys have shown up every week and played hard," Hackett said. "I'm also proud of the coaches' ability to work extremely hard during that situation."

Michigan's regular-season finale will be played next weekend at Ohio State. Hackett would not say whether or not he would be making his decisions about the program at the end of the regular season or after a possible bowl game.
