Oklahoma's Samaje Perine breaks Melvin Gordon's FBS single-game rushing record

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Don't look now, but for the second consecutive week, a running back has set the FBS record for rushing yards in a single game.

Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine has rushed for 427 yards and five touchdowns early in the fourth quarter against Kansas.

The record, which prior to this season was held by former running back LaDainian Tomlinson, was broken last week by Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon against Nebraska when he rushed for 408 yards and four touchdowns on 25 carries before sitting out for the entire fourth quarter.

Tomlinson initially set the record in 1999 when he ran for 406 yards against Texas-El Paso.

A former four-star recruit from Texas, Perine entered the game with 1,001 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the season.
