Fitzpatrick questions front office's belief in him: 'I should start every week'

Ryan Fitzpatrick is done playing games with the New York Jets.

After he replaced an injured Geno Smith and led the Jets to their second win of the year, Fitzpatrick was very blunt with reporters on his status as a starter.

"I think I should start every week," Fitzpatrick told media, according to Manish Mehta of New York Daily News.

Due to the benching, Fitzpatrick believes that his owner, coach, and general manager don't believe in him anymore.

"When your owner stops believing in you and your general manager stops believing in you and coaches stop believing in you, sometimes all you have is yourself," said Fitzpatrick, according to Mehta.

He said he needed a few days to emotionally recover from news of his benching earlier in the week, and spoke about how difficult it has been to see those who don't believe in him every day, according to Newsday's Kimberley A. Martin.

After Smith left with a knee injury in the second quarter, Fitzpatrick completed 9-of-14 passes for 120 yards and one touchdown. Smith doesn't believe the injury will be serious, and the Jets have yet to announce what they plan to do about their quarterback situation next week.
