What were the top value picks on Day 2 of the NFL Draft?

John David Mercer / USA TODAY Sports

The first day of the 2017 NFL Draft was full of surprises - and the second day was almost as fun.

Though the names were, understandably, not as big, plenty of quality selections were made Friday in the second and third rounds of the draft.

So which pick had the very best value? Let's take a look.

84: Bucs' offense gets scarier with Godwin

The Buccaneers' front office seems focused on trying to keep Jameis Winston happy.

After adding tight end O.J. Howard to play alongside Mike Evans and DeSean Jackson in the first round, Tampa Bay took Penn State pass-catcher Chris Godwin as the 11th receiver off the board Friday night. Godwin gives the Buccaneers a new dimension offensively; he was ranked as arguably a top-five receiver coming into the draft.

78: Ravens end Williams' slide

After selecting three defensive players (including a pass-rusher), the Ravens dipped into the Alabama pool again in the third round and took Tim Williams.

Williams had been projected as high as the top 15 in the leadup process, but slid somewhat due to medical questions and off-field issues, though his on-field talent is harder to dispute. Now the Ravens have a pair of talented pass-rushers who can learn from Terrell Suggs.

41: Vikings replace Peterson without a 1st

Bravo to Vikings general manager Rick Spielman.

After dealing the team's first-rounder for Sam Bradford in September, Spielman still managed to get opening-round talent and fill a major need by taking Dalvin Cook 41st overall. The Florida State running back offers a speedy alternative to Latavius Murray and likely would have been a top-20 pick if he had tested better at the combine.

Spielman should be thankful he didn't.

83: Patriots wait for Rivers

Without a first- or second-round pick and no immediate needs, the Patriots moved a few spots further back than their fans probably wanted, but still came away unscathed.

Derek Rivers is an underrated prospect, mostly because he played at a small school, and gives the Patriots great rotational pass-rush help. New England moved back from No. 72 to 83, watched a handful of other pass-rushers leave the board, and still came away with a quality edge rusher.

60: Cowboys' secondary adds Awuzie

After losing four members of their secondary to free agency, it was no surprise for the Cowboys to target defensive backs at the draft.

However, it was a surprise that Colorado cornerback Chidobe Awuzie was still available at 60th overall after being invited to the draft and projected to be a possible late first-rounder.

It should also be noted that Cowboys legend Drew Pearson announced Awuzie's selection in amazing fashion - whatever value that might adds.

35: McDowell bolsters Seahawks' D-line

The Seahawks didn't pick in the first round, but had six selections coming into Friday's draft proceedings. Given how many elite talents they've found in later rounds, it was only fitting that they landed a first-round-quality player with one of those six picks.

Michigan State's Malik McDowell once called himself a top-five talent and had widely been projected as a top-20 selection. His style is one-of-a-kind, which means he should fit right in with the rest of the Seahawks.

This is the second draft in a row that Seattle has taken a top-rated defensive tackle in the second round after picking Jarran Reed 49th overall in 2016.
