Raiders name Tony Sparano interim head coach

The Oakland Raiders officially named Tony Sparano interim head coach on Tuesday.

Former head coach Dennis Allen was fired after the Raiders' 0-4 start, including an embarrassing 38-14 loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 4.

Sparano joined the Raiders as offensive line coach in 2013. Previously, he served as the Miami Dolphins head coach from 2008-11. He compiled a 29-32 record with the Dolphins, but failed to match the success he had in his first season, when he led the team to a division title.

Sparano was reportedly Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie's first choice to succeed Allen, though team owner Mark Davis may have favored senior assistant Al Saunders.
