Johnny Manziel addresses 'unfortunate situation' with intoxicated fan

Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel characterized the man who approached him in the lobby of his apartment building last Friday night as "very intoxicated" and "very aggressive."

Friday was the first time Manziel has publicly addressed the situation. He echoed the sentiments of his lawyer, who released a statement Monday.

Chris Gonos, the fan involved in the incident, claimed in a police report that Manziel and his entourage assaulted him after he approached the quarterback for a hug.

Manziel showed no physical signs of having been in a brawl.

"It was an unfortunate situation and a situation that was tried to be averted at all costs," Manziel told reporters. He called Gonos's assertion that Gonos's brother "smashed" Manziel in the face an "untruth."

The Heisman Trophy winner didn't go into any detail about whether he or anyone associated with him threw a punch. He insisted he treats all fans with respect and denied having an entourage

Police reportedly were called to the scene, but no charges were filed against either party.
