Fans will miss Super Bowl after resale sites can't deliver on ticket promises

Several avid football fans will be missing Super Bowl XLIX in what has developed into a nightmare scenario.

A number of fans bought tickets off the secondary ticket market and found out their brokers never had them in the first place.

Some of these companies have offered fans double the amount they paid, but it won't heal the pain of missing out on football's grandest stage.

"The guy who sold us four tickets said all he was obligated to do was give us a refund, which he did," New England Patriots fan Josh Helms said to ESPN's Darren Rovell. "And the lawyers we spoke to say that we don't have much of a case because he did that."

A lot of brokers sold tickets they didn't have possession of in hopes that they would be able to acquire them at a lower price.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have not received our normal allotment of Super Bowl inventory," Prominent Tickets wrote to Seattle Seahawks fan Daryl Kikuchi in an email. "In our 26 years of business, we have never seen a market with such limited availability to the public.... If the tickets were out there, we would rather pay to fill your orders, but we cannot buy tickets that do not exist."

This development shows the darker side of the Super Bowl, and for many Americans, it's a dream ruined.
