The Dallas Cowboys have restructured quarterback Tony Romo's contract and will save nearly $13 million in salary cap space, Pro Football Talk reports.

The restructuring doesn't include a pay cut for Romo. The Cowboys merely exercised their right to convert $16 million of Romo's salary to a signing bonus, resulting in a 2015 caps savings of $12.8 million.

As with most contract restructurings, Romo's salary cap hit won't disappear; it will simply be pushed to a later year.

With this move, expect talk of the Cowboys making a run to acquire running back Adrian Peterson from the Minnesota Vikings to heat up. Trading for Peterson's hefty contract wasn't an option for the Cowboys with Romo's old deal on the books, but nearly $13 million in salary cap space is plenty to fit Peterson in.
