Jack Nicklaus isn't just the greatest major champion of all time, he's also a world-renowned golf course architect.

Nicklaus is teaming up with Florida State University to redesign The Don Veller Seminole Golf Course and Club, home of the Seminoles men's and women's golf teams.

“It is exciting. (Nicklaus Design) is going to put together a design and some recommendations, and we are going to have to get the financial end in order, which will be a process," Karl Hicks, FSU’s deputy director of athletics for external operations told Jim Henry of USA Today. "The vision for that golf course is an exciting one.”

The course, a par-73 7,147-yard layout, was constructed in 1962. The project to renovate the course and add a two-story facility to the property will cost between $4-6 million.

“We hope that our work on the Don Veller Seminole Golf Course will only help further showcase the golf program, the athletic department and the university, while also being a source of pride for the Tallahassee and Seminole community,” said Nicklaus via email to Henry.

The 18-time major champion's grandson Nick O'Leary played football at FSU, winning a national title with the Seminoles in 2013.
