Spieth optimistic heading into weekend: 'We're sitting in a good place'

Jordan Spieth and teammate Ryan Palmer shot 5-under par over their final six holes of the second round to put themselves in contention heading into the weekend at the Zurich Classic.

"I felt we were both picking each other up, that led to that strong finish," Spieth told the Golf Channel after their round of 66. "We very well could be out of this tournament right now, if it weren't for the last hour and a half ... two hours. So, we're sitting in a good place."

The field will revert back to alternate shot on Saturday, then finish the tournament with four-ball on Sunday, and Spieth believes if they post the same scores over the weekend, there's a good chance they'll win.

"Yeah potentially, this is a unique, the first time playing this (format) in a PGA Tour event," Spieth added. "So, adjustments here and there, but we're in a great position. I think if we were to double our score over the weekend, I think that's a winning score. So, we've done what we needed to do by the halfway point."

Both Spieth and Palmer are close friends and have just one mandate this week as a team, which has been helpful through the opening 36 holes.

"We kind of have a rule with each other, you can't apologize and you can't say 'my bad,' or you have to pay the other one," Spieth said. "So, I think that's useful and I think we're coming in and being positive influences when the other is a little off."
