Roma confirms Florenzi tore ACL in left knee once again
Roma announced what many of its supporters feared on Friday, confirming that midfielder Alessandro Florenzi has torn the same anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee that he had initially damaged back in October.
The 25-year-old twisted his already surgically repaired knee during a training session Tuesday and club doctor Riccardo Del Vescovo says tests showed Florenzi suffered another ACL tear as a result.
"This morning Alessandro Florenzi underwent further tests that confirmed our initial suspicion, which is that he has torn the same anterior cruciate ligament," Vescovo said in a club statement, adding that the player will "have diagnostic and arthroscopic surgery, first to confirm the test results and then to carry out the replacement of the ruptured ligament."
Florenzi had yet to make his return to action since initially sustaining a torn ACL against Sassuolo last October. The versatile Italy international had scored one goal and recorded three assists for Luciano Spalletti's side prior to the injury.
The club did not give a timeline for Florenzi's return.
