Mulkey's had it with Baylor's critics: 'Knock them right in the face'

Baylor women's head basketball coach Kim Mulkey has had enough with the national coverage of the sexual assault scandal surrounding Baylor that has seen the school's president, athletic director, and head football coach all fired.

Taking to the court after earning her 500th career victory, Mulkey did not shy away from her opinion over the perception of Baylor's campus life.

"If somebody around you and they ever say, 'I will never send my daughter to Baylor,' you knock them right in the face," Mulkey said, later adding: "I work here. My daughter went to school here and it's the damn best school in America."

After the game at her press conference, Mulkey did not back down.

"I'm just tired of hearing of it. I'm tired of people talking on a national scale that don't know what they're talking about," Mulkey continued. "If they didn't sit in those meetings and they weren't apart of the investigation, you're repeating things that you heard, it's over. It's done.

"This is a great institution and I would send my daughter and I would pay for anybody else's daughter to come here. I work here everyday, I'm in the know and I'm tired of hearing it. ... The problems we have at Baylor are no different than the problems at any other school in America. Period. Move on. Write another story."

Baylor is facing at least six federal and state lawsuits as well as federal civil rights investigations into claims the school and football program ignored, mishandled, or tried to cover up reports of sexual abuse.

Baylor regents acknowledged 17 cases of sexual assault, which was well short of one case alleging more than 50 attacks by football players.

The last time Mulkey made national headlines was when former player Brittney Griner claimed in an ESPN Magazine piece that the coach made her keep her sexuality a secret while playing at Baylor over concerns it would hinder recruiting and damage the program's image.
