Denis Guryanov lifted Russia to a bronze-medal finish at the 2017 World Junior Championship with an overtime winner 33 seconds into the extra frame, sealing a 2-1 victory over Sweden.

With the win, Russia has now medaled in the last seven competitions, while Sweden was saddled with a fourth-place finish for a third straight tournament.

Here's what else you need to know:

  • Sweden was the dominant side in the opening frame, firing five times as many shots as Russia, but found itself chasing the game 16 seconds into the second. Kirill Kaprizov set a national record with his tournament-leading ninth goal, burning a defender around the edge and then banging it in with a second whack upon reaching the high-danger area.
  • Jonathan Dahlen tied it near the midway mark of the period with his fifth of the tournament when he knocked the puck off the stick of Yegor Rykov, who was far too careless on a clearing attempt in front of the Russian goal.
  • In overtime, 16-year-old Rasmus Dahlin was guilty of the same nonchalance that cost Rykov. His backwards pass back to Alexander Nylander was poked ahead by Guryanov, who slid the puck back through the legs of Felix Sandstrom for the decisive marker.
  • Ilya Samsonov made 38 saves for Russia. Sandstrom had 24 for the Swedes.
  • Russia has one gold, three silver, and three bronze-medal finishes over the last seven tournaments.
  • In addition to three straight fourth-place finishes, Sweden has been left disappointed in five straight medals matches. The Swedes fell in the gold-medal finals in 2013 and 2014.
