Pacquiao vs. Broner: Betting nuggets and preview

The MGM Grand in Las Vegas plays host to Saturday's fight between Manny Pacquiao and Adrien Broner, a 12-round bout with the WBA welterweight title on the line. Here's what bettors should consider in the lead-up to the match.

Tale of the tape

Pacquiao is a sizable favorite north of -300 and rising, with Pinnacle Sports listing the 40-year-old as -337 chalk. Bettors in the mood for some underdog action can grab Broner at +288 at the same shop. The over/under is set at 10.5 rounds, though the vig is much more expensive on the over at -254 (under +212). Pacquiao (60-7-2) has dropped four of his last 10 fights but is 3-1 since falling to Floyd Mayweather in May 2015, with the only blemish over that span coming as a loss to Jeff Horn by unanimous decision in July 2017. The Filipino earned a win in his most recent bout, a seventh-round TKO over Lucas Matthysse to claim the welterweight title. Broner (33-3-1), 29, last fought nine months ago in a majority draw to Jessie Vargas following a loss to Mikey Garcia via unanimous decision.

Betting nuggets

-Broner has 24 knockouts over his career. Betting on the American to win via KO, TKO, or DQ is going off at +550 in most shops.

-Prior to knocking out Matthysse, each of the previous nine wins for Pacquiao had come via decision. That price is currently +100 or -110 depending on where you shop.

-Broner has never been knocked out in his career. Bettors who think that can change can snag +250 on a Pacquiao KO or TKO.

-Broner's three career losses have come in the welterweight division; it'll also be the third straight fight in which he's listed as the underdog.

Best bet

Pacquiao by decision (+100): Pacquiao scored a knockout in his last win over Matthysse and has more (39) over his career than Broner has fights (37). However, it's tough to ignore the veteran netted nine consecutive victories via decision prior to the Matthysse clash. Look for Pacquiao to wear out the athletic Broner over the full 12 rounds and come out on top when it's all said and done.
