Report: Haney, Teofimo in negotiations for 2025 fight
Devin Haney is looking to make a big splash in his return fight, and he appears to have found the perfect opponent.
Haney and Teofimo Lopez are in negotiations to face each other in 2025, sources told Brian Mazique of Forbes.
The date and the money involved are unknown, but the event would feature a massive card, be broadcast on ESPN, and be promoted by Top Rank, Mazique reports.
Haney hasn't fought since losing to Ryan Garcia by unanimous decision in April. The result was changed to a no-contest after Garcia failed a drug test.
The 25-year-old Haney entered the Garcia fight as the WBC's 140-pound titleholder. He's since been switched to WBC junior welterweight champion in recess due to inactivity.
Meanwhile, Lopez has fared well since moving up to the junior welterweight division following his 2021 lightweight title loss to George Kambosos Jr. The 27-year-old has won five straight fights, capturing the WBO title from Josh Taylor in June 2023. He last fought Steve Claggett in June, winning by unanimous decision.
