Hertha Berlin reached an agreement with AC Milan to sign striker Krzysztof Piatek on a permanent deal.

The Bundesliga side will splash €27 million for the 24-year-old Polish international, according to the Guardian's Fabrizio Romano.

Piatek, who was largely relegated to Stefano Pioli's bench following Zlatan Ibrahimovic's addition, was also linked with a move to Tottenham to help cover for Harry Kane's absence. According to Romano, Milan rejected Tottenham's request for a loan, instead seeking a permanent departure for Piatek.

Milan originally signed Piatek for a reported €35 million from Genoa in January 2019 and he hit the ground running with four goals in his first three league outings.

Piatek recorded nine goals in his first season at the San Siro to pair with 13 at Genoa for 22 tallies, the third-highest amount in Serie A. This season, Piatek has bagged just four league goals in 18 appearances.

For midtable Hertha, it's been a busy January transfer window. Lucas Tousart was lured from Lyon for €25 million and was subsequently loaned back to the Ligue 1 side, and Santiago Ascacibar was signed from Stuttgart for €11 million.

New Hertha owner Lars Windhorst's investment company Tennor Holding B. V. bought 37.5% of the club in the summer, the largest investment deal in German football history.
