After three years in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints, former CFL defensive back Delvin Breaux is returning to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on a one-year contract, sources told Justin Dunk of 3DownNation.

The 2014 CFL All-Star did not play in the 2017 season due to a stress fracture on his fibula that was initially misdiagnosed by Saints training staff. The move north of the border comes as a result of Breaux finding it difficult to get medical clearance on his spine from NFL teams, sources told Nick Underhill of The Advocate. The 28-year-old did not have a documented spinal injury with the Saints, but did fracture three vertebrae in his neck in high school, forcing him to go the CFL route early in his pro career.

Breaux, a native of New Orleans, played 22 games for the Saints between 2015 and 2016 after his first stint in Hamilton in 2013 and 2014. He was a bright spot for the Saints lowly defense in 2015, starting all 16 games and recording three interceptions with 19 passes defended.

The Toronto Argonauts, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots also expressed interest in signing Breaux before he elected to return to his former squad.
