Eskimos clinch CFL's final playoff spot
The Edmonton Eskimos booked their ticket to the CFL postseason with a 19-6 win over the BC Lions on Saturday.
Greg Ellingson totaled 133 yards through the air to lead all Eskimos receivers. Running back Shaquille Cooper scored the game's lone touchdown on a 2-yard run.
The win pushed Edmonton to 8-8 on the season and guaranteed the club will earn at least a crossover to the East playoffs. Two East teams - the Toronto Argonauts and Ottawa Redblacks - can win no more than six games, ensuring that a West team will play in the East semifinals.
The Eskimos currently sit two games behind the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL's West Division. No West team has more than 10 wins, though Calgary and Saskatchewan each have only five losses on the year.
The loss to Edmonton dropped BC to 5-11 on the season.
In the first quarter of the contest, the Lions' prized free-agent quarterback Mike Reilly exited with what is believed to be a broken wrist.
