The Toronto Argonauts fired vice-president of player personnel John Murphy on Tuesday, over a week after his altercation with fans following the East Division final.

The team made the decision after an internal review of the incident.

In the immediate aftermath of their season-ending loss to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BMO Field, several members of the Argos, including Murphy, were involved in an altercation with Ticats fans. Video showed Murphy getting physical with a fan; he also allegedly uttered a homophobic slur.

The CFL suspended Murphy indefinitely while reviewing the incident. The league said Tuesday it's still investigating other aspects of the altercation, according to The Canadian Press.

Murphy joined the Argos in 2019 and worked alongside general manager Mike "Pinball" Clemons to help build this year's division-winning club. He previously held front-office roles in Saskatchewan, Calgary, and Winnipeg.

With Murphy gone, it's expected that Clemons' role in the team's front office will now be expanded, according to Frank Zicarelli of Canoe.com.
