Manchester United benefitted from Paris Saint-Germain's defensive errors and a crucial VAR decision to overturn a 2-0 deficit on aggregate and sensationally qualify for the Champions League quarterfinals.

Romelu Lukaku scored off a pair of blunders in the first half and Marcus Rashford converted a penalty in the 94th minute to secure the dramatic 3-1 victory at the Parc des Princes.

The result was enough for United to advance on away goals 3-3 on aggregate.

Referee Damir Skomina ruled upon review that Presnel Kimpembe committed a handball despite turning his back to Diogo Dalot's shot. Rashford's ensuing spot-kick sent PSG tumbling out of the last 16 for the third consecutive season.

It's yet another massive achievement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has now won 14 of his 17 matches since replacing Jose Mourinho as interim manager.

PSG, however, face the bitter reality of another missed opportunity. They've yet to make it past the quarterfinals since the Qatari takeover in 2011, and a pending Financial Fair Play investigation could harm the club's prospects in the Champions League.

The hosts lost despite controlling more than 70 percent possession and limiting United to just four shots.

Lukaku scored just two minutes into the second leg, pouncing on Thilo Kehrer's misplaced back pass to send United into a shocking lead. Juan Bernat equalized minutes later from close range, only for Lukaku to restore United's advantage after another defensive blunder.

Betraying his vast experience, 41-year-old Gianluigi Buffon - who was selected over understudy Alphonse Areola - spilled Rashford's shot and allowed Lukaku to lash home.

The second half was uneventful until its final moments. Dalot's speculative effort from outside the area struck Kimpembe's arm and deflected out for a corner kick. The PSG defender turned away as the ball made contact with his arm, and match official Skomina determined that it required reviewing.

The decision was made to award United a penalty, and Rashford didn't hesitate, striking the ball with authority to send his team through.
