Icardi saga finally ends with last-minute move to PSG
Inter Milan waited until the very last second to find a taker for disgruntled striker Mauro Icardi.
The Argentine completed a move to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, joining the reigning French champions on loan just before the closure of the summer transfer window. PSG confirmed they have an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. Fabrizio Romano of Sky Sport Italia reports that the purchase option is worth €70 million.
Icardi, who previously wore the captain's armband for the Nerazzurri, saw his relationship with the club rapidly deteriorate following the arrivals of CEO Beppe Marotta and manager Antonio Conte. They each made it clear they had no desire to retain the 26-year-old, with the latter freezing him out of the squad to begin the campaign.
Prolific as Icardi was during his time at the San Siro - he scored 111 Serie A goals for Inter after arriving from Sampdoria in 2013 - his tenure ended with him suing the club in a bid for reinstatement.
Previously linked with the likes of Juventus, Napoli, and Atletico Madrid, Icardi will immediately assume a key role at the Parc des Princes thanks to the injury-induced absences of Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.
Neymar, who stayed put this summer despite his desire to return to Barcelona, will miss the Parisians' first three Champions League matches due to suspension, giving Icardi additional opportunities to hit the ground running in the French capital.
