PSV Eindhoven announced the signing of German World Cup hero Mario Gotze on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old, who was a free agent after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired earlier this year, inked a two-year deal with the Dutch club.

Gotze, capped 63 times by Germany, credited compatriot and PSV boss Roger Schmidt for convincing him to make the move to the Eredivisie.

"We had some nice talks, and I seriously considered making a move to the Netherlands," he said. "I had a lot of offers this summer. but I am a man of feeling and make my own decisions. I feel I am ready for a very different challenge and I am confident that this should be a very comfortable transition for me."

The midfielder had been linked with the likes of Hertha Berlin, AC Milan, and Roma in recent months.

Gotze, who scored the World Cup-winning goal for Germany in extra time of the 2014 final against Argentina, will look to revive his career in the Netherlands after a series of injuries disrupted his second Dortmund spell.
