A meeting between representatives of the Premier League's 20 sides is reportedly set for next week and will discuss potential changes to Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Ideas put forth will include giving managers the right to appeal decisions, according to the Telegraph's Jason Burt, who adds the league will resist the notion in hopes of limiting time-wasting and tactical breaks in play.

There will also reportedly be a discussion with Mike Riley, general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), in support of suspending the use of the widely maligned VAR after a series of controversial decisions in the English top flight.

Part of the clubs' frustrations stem from the match officials' failure to use pitchside monitors. Monitors have not been employed in 110 Premier League matches this season, forcing referees to rely on suggestions from VAR officials to overturn decisions.

A call to increase the reliance on pitchside monitors for off-the-ball incidents and occasions in which the referee and VAR officials disagree will apparently feature prominently during next week's discussions.

"The reading at the beginning was that (the monitors were) going to be used sparingly, I think. And it hasn’t been used sparingly," Chelsea coach Frank Lampard said during a meeting of Premier League managers last Thursday. "It’s been used not at all. I do think that’s probably one thing we could look at."

Providing replays on in-stadium screens for fans will also apparently be considered. The current system alerts fans of a VAR check before posting the decision on screens without context or explanation.
