Sheffield United completed the signing of Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster for a "substantial" club-record fee, the South Yorkshire outfit announced on Friday.

The deal is reportedly worth £23.5 million and includes both a 15% sell-on clause and a buyback option that expires in three years.

Brewster, who's yet to make an appearance in the Premier League, scored 11 goals in 22 games while on loan at Championship club Swansea City last season.

He's now signed a five-year contract with the Blades.

"He's a natural goalscorer. He finishes from any aspect, whether it is in the air or whether it's spectacular goals, free-kicks or off his shin - he has a lovely habit of scoring goals, which is crucial in the Premier League," manager Chris Wilder said in a statement.

Though he was highly rated by members of Liverpool's staff, including manager Jurgen Klopp, Brewster couldn't find a way into the first team. Diogo Jota's arrival from Wolverhampton Wanderers made it even tougher for Brewster to earn meaningful minutes.

The 20-year-old leaves Liverpool with only four cup appearances to his name.

"Rhian fits in with the philosophy of the club signing young, hungry prospects that is giving us a good foundation for the future, strengthening the areas Chris and the recruitment team highlighted," chief executive Stephen Bettis. "The fact that we are doing business with the Premier League champions over one of their hottest prospects is a sign of how far we have progressed in a relatively short space of time."

While the fee may seem high, Sheffield United are desperately in need of goals after being held scoreless through their first three games of the season. Striker Lys Mousset is out with a toe injury and new signing Oliver Burke needs time to adjust following a miserable spell at West Bromwich Albion.
