Jamie Vardy will miss "a few weeks" after having a minor operation on his hernia, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers said Friday.

The striker, who is joint-third in the Premier League scoring ladder with 11 goals, has been dealing with the issue throughout the 2020-21 campaign.

"It's one that doesn't keep him out for too long, but it's just a repair in and (around) that hernia area. It's one we feel he can't really put it off much longer," Rodgers explained.

"We were hoping to do it a few weeks back, but this is (the) window where we can get it done and that will obviously leave him with a good part of the season where he can be really influential for us."

The Foxes conclude January with Sunday's FA Cup trip to Brentford and Premier League fixtures against Everton and Leeds United. Vardy is a doubt for later top-flight meetings with Fulham (Feb. 3), Wolverhampton Wanderers (Feb. 7), and Liverpool (Feb. 13).

Kelechi Iheanacho and Ayoze Perez are the next two strikers behind Vardy in the pecking order. The pair have combined for one league goal this season.
