Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's job is secure. For now.

Manchester United's under-fire manager is not in danger of being sacked despite the club's recent struggles, reports David Ornstein of The Athletic.

Saturday's frenetic 4-2 defeat to Leicester City compounded the Red Devils' poor run of form, pushing their winless streak in the Premier League to three matches. In spite of those results, the Norwegian bench boss has "a lot of credit in the bank at board level," writes Ornstein.

The 48-year-old tactician was granted the reins at United on an interim basis in December 2018 before assuming the role permanently. He signed a new three-year contract in July.

But Solskjaer's spell has been defined by a lack of consistency, with United's performances varying wildly during his tenure.

Manchester United currently sit fifth in the league, one point outside the top four after an opulent summer that saw them spend lavishly to improve the squad.

"Lately, we have not been in great form, lost too many points, and that is something we have to look at," Solskjaer said after Saturday's match. "We might have to change; do we need more legs in there? What do we need?"

He added: "We have to dust ourselves off. Make sure that when we come in again, freshen our minds; we've looked ourselves in the mirror, I've looked myself in the mirror, and make sure we perform. That is the nature of football: You have to respond to setbacks."

That could be a difficult task in the coming weeks.

Manchester United's next six league matches include meetings with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Arsenal. Sandwiched in that run are Champions League fixtures against Atalanta and Villarreal.
