Cristiano Ronaldo is on his way back to England to discuss his future with Manchester United, The Athletic's David Ornstein reports.

Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, has struggled to broker a move away from United in the weeks since the Portuguese superstar told the club he wants to leave.

Though it's unclear if Ronaldo will rejoin training Tuesday, he's reportedly expected to hold a face-to-face meeting with United manager Erik ten Hag in the coming days.

Ronaldo missed the Red Devils' preseason tour of Thailand and Australia for family reasons, further fueling rumors of a potential divorce from the English side.

However, sources told Ornstein it's increasingly likely Ronaldo will remain at United for the upcoming season.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly turned down offers to sign Ronaldo, citing tactical and financial concerns. Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn also ruled out a move for Ronaldo, saying the five-time Ballon d'Or winner wouldn't "fit" the German club's philosophy.

Ten Hag insisted earlier this month that Ronaldo isn't for sale.

The all-time leading Champions League scorer could even extend his stay at Old Trafford. Though Ronaldo's contract technically expires next summer, there's an option to extend it until June 2024.
