Report: Chelsea to offer Lampard 3-year deal this week

Chelsea are moving quickly to fill their coaching vacancy.

With Maurizio Sarri's departure, and subsequent move to Juventus, finalized Sunday, the Blues are reportedly set to offer former midfielder Frank Lampard the job this week, sources told Liam Twomey of ESPN.

Lampard, long tipped as the potential replacement should Sarri depart, will reportedly be offered a three-year contract. Chelsea academy boss Jody Morris and fitness coach Chris Jones are expected to join him at Stamford Bridge, Twomey adds.

Chelsea would need to pry the 40-year-old away from Derby County, where he's coming off a successful campaign in which he led the Rams to the Championship playoff final. Derby owner Mel Morris said Monday he has no intention of losing Lampard.

"There's no change in the situation at present, except for the fact that Chelsea no longer have a manager," Morris told talkSPORT, according to ESPN. "We have made it clear to everyone, but most importantly to Frank himself, that we want to retain him at the club for the long term.

"If Chelsea want to hire Frank, then it is in their gift to make an offer in pursuit of that. In the meantime, we will continue to put our best foot forward to continue with our plans for the coming season."

The reigning Europa League champions would need to fork over £4 million to secure Lampard's release from Derby, according to Twomey; the club reportedly pocketed £5 million from the agreement that saw Sarri leave for Turin.

Lampard spent 13 years with Chelsea during his playing days, winning three Premier League titles and a Champions League crown, among numerous other accolades.
