This week's winners and losers from the golf world

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

This may have been one of the year's more underrated weekends in golf. Henrik Stenson ended a 13-month victory drought on Sunday, the U.S. retained the Solheim Cup in Iowa, a pair of college players battled for the U.S. Amateur, while others jockeyed for a place in the top 125.

Here are this week's winners and losers from the world of golf.

Winners:

Adrian Otaegui

The 24-year-old shocked Marcel Siem at the Paul Lawrie Match Play en route to winning his first career European Tour title on Sunday. Otaegui was 3-down to Siem at the turn and 2-down with five holes left, but won the 14th hole and then dropped the hammer late in the round. The Spaniard birdied three straight holes from Nos. 15-17 to win 2 and 1 over the German.

"It's very, very special to have my first European Tour victory here at the Paul Lawrie. I'm so happy," Otaegui told europeantour.com after the victory. "The way I played the back nine being three down after nine holes, I played good golf. Obviously Marcel missed a couple of shots but I was very, very focused, I knew I could do it and the way I finished was just the perfect finish to the week."

Anna Nordqvist/Lexi Thompson match

The first Sunday singles match didn't disappoint at the 15th Solheim Cup. Europe's Anna Nordqvist jumped out to an early 4-up lead over Lexi Thompson at the turn, but the young American roared back in a big way. Thompson won four of the next six holes, before grabbing her first lead of the match at the 16th hole. On the 18th hole, Nordqvist punched back by stuffing her approach to halve the match. "It had to be the weirdest round of golf I've ever played," Thompson told the Golf Channel afterward.

Thompson carded a back-nine 28 to snag the half point.

Redman was two down with two holes to go in the U.S. Amateur final Sunday, but rallied, dropping a bomb for eagle at the 35th hole, then rolling in a birdie putt on the 36th to force a playoff with Doug Ghim. On the first extra hole, Redman made a birdie to win the title, and with it receives exemptions to play in the 2018 Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship.

Losers:

Zac Blair

Blair finished the 2016-17 PGA Tour No. 126 in the FedEx Cup standings, thanks to a 3-over-par 73 on Saturday and a MDF result. The 26-year-old watched J.J. Henry birdie the 72nd hole on Sunday to push Blair out of the playoffs by one shot. Instead of heading to Long Island for the first leg of the FedEx Cup next week, Blair will prepare for the Web.com Tour Finals in the fall.

Seamus Power

The Irishman's season came to an end on Saturday at the Wyndham Championship with a forgettable back-nine 41. Power sat 123rd in the FedEx Cup standings coming into the final regular-season event, but missed the Saturday cut to fall outside the 125-man playoff field.

Daniel Summerhays

Summerhays arrived in Greensboro, N.C. at No. 124 on the FedEx Cup points list, but missed the 36-hole cut at the Wyndham Championship. The 33-year-old opened with a 67, but blew up early on Day 2 and finished with a 3-over-par 73. Summerhays has made every playoff series since 2011, but will be watching from home in 2017.
