Woods to miss cut at St. Andrews after 2nd-round 75

Tiger Woods was significantly better than he was Thursday but once again struggled around the Old Course at St. Andrews on Friday.

A 6-over 78 in his opening round made it very unlikely the three-time Open Champion would make the cut, and his 3-over 75 on Friday confirmed he'll miss the weekend for the second straight time at St. Andrews.

After parring the first, Woods narrowly missed a birdie on the second before pouring one in at No. 3 to get things moving. The 46-year-old was unable to build any momentum as he immediately bogeyed the fourth to erase that progress.

Two more bogeys and a double led to a 9-over finish, nine strokes off the projected cut in Scotland.

The putter let Woods down again, as he needed 35 putts for the second straight day to navigate the tricky greens. That portion of his game continues to plague him this season as he struggles to get tournament reps.

With just over 12 hours between the end of his opening round and his start on Friday, it was always going to be a challenge for Woods to recharge his ailing body. Add in the cold, damp conditions on Day 2, and it's no surprise he looked rather tentative.

Despite the poor scoring, Woods still provided a moment for the ages as he crossed the Swilcan Bridge and walked up the iconic 18th to the delight of the roaring crowd.

He admitted afterward that this could possibly be his last competitive round in an Open Championship at St. Andrews.
