Faldo: LIV players shouldn't be part of European Ryder Cup team

Nick Faldo doesn't believe LIV Golf players should be allowed to play or captain the European Ryder Cup team.

"They're done," Faldo said in an interview with Sky Sports. "It's a rival tour. If you work for a company for 20 years, and you then leave to go to a rival company, I can promise you your picture won't still be on the wall. You've moved on. Fine, off you go."

A large contingent of former European Ryder Cup players has left for Greg Norman's Saudi-backed series over the past year, including Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia, all of whom have been key members of the team over the past decade. Faldo called the rival circuit "meaningless."

"They shouldn't be (at the Ryder Cup) because they've gone off, and you've got to move on," the six-time major winner said. The 2023 installment of the biennial event is set for late September in Rome.

Instead, Faldo said he thinks the European team should look toward younger players who have the potential to be a part of the Ryder Cup team for years to come.

"They're all at the age where Europe needs to find a new breed of 25-year-olds that can play half a dozen or more Ryder Cups, and I think we're going to have that."

In addition to the controversial series and the players who've joined it, Faldo also spoke about LIV CEO Norman, a former competitor of his.

"He was a great golfer," Faldo said. "He really was a charismatic, exciting golfer, and he's absolutely wrecked all of that."
