Odion Ighalo may have played his final match for Manchester United.

The Nigerian striker has been a hit with the Red Devils following an unexpected January loan switch from Shanghai Shenhua, but according to ESPN UK's Rob Dawson, his future with the team is uncertain as his temporary terms are scheduled to lapse May 31.

With the coronavirus outbreak forcing the suspension of the Premier League campaign until at least April 30, and amid expectations that a work stoppage could be extended, United will reportedly be required to renegotiate a new deal if they intend to keep Ighalo beyond May 31. Officially, United hold his registration until June 30.

An agreement would also be contingent on United being granted permission by FIFA to retain the 30-year-old after loans across Europe's major leagues expire July 1.

If United's endeavors to keep Ighalo prove unsuccessful, the Premier League's plans to complete the season could result in the Red Devils playing important matches in the summer months without a proven forward who's enjoyed an impressive, albeit short, spell at Old Trafford.

The former Watford star has scored four goals in eight appearances.

Multiple reports after United's shock move to sign Ighalo, who is under contract at Shanghai Shenhua until 2021, suggested that the agreement did not include an option to buy.
